Laser And LASIK – Clearing Concepts And Vision!

They say the eyes can see only what the brain is ready to comprehend. So, it is vital that we see better to comprehend better, isn’t it? In this golden technological age, technology is constantly working out ways to ensure people see better and clearer. Why then are we falling behind in our quest to see?

I reckon it’s the confusion about the role of technology in helping us regain, restore and better our sight.

Having served in the field for decades, I see the misconceptions and lack of knowledge that lies at the surface. For example, I encounter people who have misunderstood the meaning and use of Laser and LASIK. So, I ventured to write this blog as a way to lay the meaning straight and concise.

Many people have heard of Laser technology. Did you know that in the year 1989, the first ever human laser eye surgery was conducted?

Today Laser is the most frequent form of technology for correcting vision and improving the eyesight. Essentially, Laser is the technology that is used for the purpose of a LASIK surgery. LASIK is the abbreviated form of the term Laser Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis. LASIK is known as the most common type of Laser eye surgery.

Did you also know that the Laser eye surgery technology is in fact FDA approved? Therefore, LASIK uses Laser technology to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. Depending on your eye condition there are a number of LASIK surgeries. So then, how do you know what surgery should you seek out? To help you so, an experienced LASIK surgeon will correctly asses your eye condition and accordingly qualify you for a Laser or non-Laser surgery.

As of now, approximately 30+ laser technologies have been qualified by the FDA to be used for LASIK. With the help of your LASIK surgeon, the best Laser can be adjusted for your particular prescription. In a matter of fifteen minutes or less, with a target light the Laser painlessly reshapes your cornea.

Around 96% of individuals have received their desired vision and no longer depend on glasses or have the fear of an increasing eye number.

Would like to be a part of the large number of successful individuals whose vision has been restored, cleared, bettered and perfected? If so, then welcome to the Vission Eye Center.

Escape the arrows of the Computer Vission Syndrome!

If you looked at your life, what would be the one thing that ate up most of your time?

It would probably be the video display terminal, staring at what is commonly known as the computer screen. Our dependence on the electronic screen has grown to a massive extent that everywhere you turn; there is a screen instead of a face to greet you.

With widespread technology came visual related problems. What use to be a rarity is now an eventuality and for some a reality! Our eyes work the hardest to keep up with our craze for the screen. To constantly focus and read the pixels tires out the muscles. A condition that has gripped approximately 45 to 70 million people is the Computer Vision Syndrome.

If you can identify any of the following symptoms such as headache, eye strain, double vision, dry eyes, eye fatigue, are in fact signs of CVS. Apart from these, uncorrected vision, improper posture and poor lighting could further escalate the issue.

However, having CVS is not the end of the world. The remedies and treatments are able to calm your eye muscles and cause your eyes less strain.

  • Ensure that your posture is upright and your seat is padded. Your feet should touch the floor and the arms must have enough room to support you while typing.
  • Position the computer screen so that your head is in a comfortable position and there are no glares or overhead lighting.
  • Take a break at regular intervals. Apply the 20-20-20 rule
  • Remember to blink often so as to minimize your chances of developing a dry eye.

While working at your computer, your eyes usually adjust to every setting by focusing back and forth. The longer you continue to strain the eye, the harder it becomes for your eyes to keep up! Let’s make a decision to give our eyes the much deserved remedy it longs for.

Equip your eyes against the darts of the Computer Vision Syndrome; protect your eyes today at the Vission Eye Center!

POST: 1 – All You Wanted To Know About Lasik

Your eyes are among the most important organs of your body. Today, thanks to huge strides in medical technology, all sports of eye problems can be rectified. Here, Dr Himanshu Mehta answers questions about LASIK and other types of eye-related procedures.

What are conventional LASIK, Blade Free Lasik (BFL), Epi-LASIK and PRK?

Blade free Lasik (BFL) is the use of fem to second laser to create a thin 100u corneal flap without using a blade-assisted mechanical microkeratome as in conventional LASIK. This results in safety, consistency, accuracy, predictability and reliability. However, with BFL and newer generation microkeratomes, regular and customized LASIK results also give excellent results. The treatment meets all expectations and boasts of rapid mobilization i.e. minimal downtime and consistent good results, which are the hallmark of LASIK. In Epi-LASIK and PRK, the corneal flap is not made and laser is performed after removing the epithelium or the top 30-40u of the cornea.sik (BFL) is the use of fem to second laser to create a thin 100u corneal flap without using a blade-assisted mechanical microkeratome as in conventional LASIK. Is LASIK safe? Does the procedure hurt?

A lot of people fear about Lasik eye surgery in Mumbai that they said it is huge painful and that they will get their number back after some time. People also want to know whether LASIK is possible for people who have plus numbers or if they are in the 45-55 age bracket, and have distance and near numbers. To all these queries, I’d like to say that LASIK is extremely safe thanks to all the newer generation machines. There is minimal pain and no injection, stitches or lens insertion. In fact, it is less painfull than going to the beauty parlour! Once you undergo the procedure, there are very low chances of a number coming back.

Hypermetropes or people with plus numbers are most happy once they undergo this procedure. LASIK is definitely possible for bifocal numbers i.e. for people above 45 who have distance and near numbers.

Meanwhile see who’s this thing chirping on my window? Turns out to be my little birdie boo from Vission eye center Juhu, Mumbai. Tweet baby sweet and birdie informs me that Yash Chopda, the movie mogul, was recently operated on for for cataract. Going by the worry on my pretty little face, birdie says that chopraji is fine and back home, but under the strict medical supervision of Dr. Himanshu Mehta from Vission eye care in Mumbai, Juhu.

Apparently, Chopraji is not the doc’s first client. The likes of Amitabh Bachchan Are regulars at his Juhu clinic for LASIK eye surgery problem. I told birdie that hardly matters because his first-rate client is still on her way. You get the drift right? Anyway, for now, I wish Chopraji gets well soon.
